how important is misting, really? i understand the main purpose is to clean your plants (i’m not quite at the humidity control level of plant parenthood yet) but i’ve seen a lot of people prefer using microfiber gloves for the cleaning process (and jack’s bug off spray as well?).

can i just use one of these methods? if so, which do you prefer and why?

I like to mist because it sort of mimics rain for them. The more you can mimic their natural environment the better I think 🌱🪴🌧️🌦️☀️

I’m not sure what plants you have but if you have any alocasias don’t mist, it causes more harm than good.

The main purpose to misting is giving the plant a humid environment.I don’t mist my plants at all and use a humidifier in my plant room. As far as cleaning the leaves, I use a moist cloth and wipe the leaves … every couple of weeks I will use neem oil.

About misting - I think it depends on your environment! Misting can be bad for houseplants - it can lead to rot and fungal disease. The airflow outside is very different than inside our houses, so water droplets can end up sitting there which could invite disease and pests that like moist environments, like fungus gnats. Plants also love consistency and the effect of misting doesn’t last that long. The best way to improve humidity is to get a humidifier or group plants together - plants will release moisture through their leaves together and create a slightly more humid microclimate!

A cloth to wipe off leaves works great! I’ll just use a damp cloth or microfiber cloth for dust. I’ve seen people use castile soap while cleaning leaves to get rid of pests. Also hosing plants off in the shower works too!

I will usually just mist the plants that will often get they’re new leaves stuck because they need it, but like was mentioned grouping plants is good and ive been putting the plants that im growing in water in vases by my plants that like humidity and they’ve been loving it 💕

Misting to clean the plants is fine, there are lots of ready to use solutions you can buy online and in store. Or you can make your own spray. I just use a regular microfiber cloth and make my own spray (I already had all the ingredients I needed). We The Wild and Arber are 2 that I’ve heard good reviews about.

Misting to increase humidity is not recommended by plant experts, it does not increase the overall humidity and it can cause more harm than good.

great, thanks! i’ll google some good recipes. jack’s bug spray and castile soap seem popular (diluted, of course !!)
