Guys I posted a few weeks ago about this pain in the butt plant… how I was just going to try save it by misting the roots daily and leaving it free…

This little witch with a b is growing a new leaf. I have put in two years of time and money on this plant and now it’s happy just sitting on a tray 😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒

I also have a ton of new roots forming. If this crazy plant tries to flower like this I may lose it 🤦🏻‍♀️

How do you get new roots to form? I have one with no roots but healthy leaves. It’s growing a new leaf but I can’t get it to grow any roots, that seems counterproductive to put energy into a new leaf to me 😖 idk how to help her, I’ve got it sitting over a bed of sphagnum moss that I keep moist.

Dude I have no idea. I literally cut off all of its roots except that one because they rotted. I noticed one new root then another and then another while having it in this position and misting it daily

How rude!!! But yay?? Yeah, I’m always baffled when people are like “I dunno, I just ignored it” 😳

They do grow very well in just water. It will flower if it gets the proper light in just water.

That is actually what I am going to try when I get sufficient root growth!

no! no! no!!!! Orchids are arboreal plants! in nature, they need a LOT of oxygen to their roots (they grow on trees with their roots exposed to humidity). if you put it in water, not only will the plant be overwatered, causing it to rot, it will also suffocate. please plant it in orchid bark or mount it on a piece of bark with sphagnum moss. it will not survive in a cup of water for long…

Can orchids be grown in just water?

The plants' exotic flowers and characterful roots make them the perfect display piece. Widely known as water culture orchids, or hydroponic orchids, these plants can be cultivated by even a novice grower. The simple technique requires only an appropriate container, water, sterile tools, and a little patience.
