Might be because The base is being constricted by those rubber bands.

I agree, I hate when I buy plants with such things on them

I would definitely try repotting it in a bigger pot, and remove the mesh.

Some of your leaves look good so I don’t think it’s too bad! Maybe try a new window spot and a New pot.
