_Publicado por Krista el 2026-04-08_

Just got my parlor palm today! Upon arrival and unpacking it (it was a delivery) I noticed that it has roots growing out the bottom of the pot. I took it out of the pot to inspect roots and this is what they look like. Should I repot to a 4” pot (it’s currently in a 3”)? I don’t want to stress it too much but I also want it to have room to grow and be happy

I repotted my baby palm from the nursery pot to a 3.5 clear pot i had and its thriving and shooting up. I had no issues with shock.

I would if only because waiting too long and allowing the roots to get worse could cause worse shock when roots are disturbed even more. This also reminds me that I need to do this with a plant I just got.
Though in my experience waiting a week or two before doing such won’t hurt the plant much as long as the roots don’t grow insanely fast. None of my plants have that fast of growing roots at least not in soil they don’t.

I always mine right away because I know my own substrate regarding watering schedules, never had issues with them dying.
