Hi all,

I received a Winter Pine as a gift about 10 months ago. When I first got it, it was lush, with vibrant green leaves, and a bit smaller in size. The care instructions said it needed direct sunlight, so I’ve been keeping it in a spot where it gets plenty of sun.

However, about 7 months ago, the leaves started turning brown. I’ve been watering it whenever the soil dries out, but the leaves have stayed brown since then. I checked the branches by bending them, and they still have some flexibility, so I’m not sure if it’s completely dead or if there’s still a chance to save it.

A friend of mine, who has a lot of experience with plants, thinks it might be dead, but I’m really hoping there’s a way to revive it. I’m not sure what to do and would appreciate any advice or guidance you can offer.

Thank you!

Look at the roots to see if any are still living. If so, trim off the dead branches to find any still alive. Continue watering and fertilizing if there is life still in it.

Thank you! Is there a fertilizer you recommend?

I don’t use anything special. Osmocote is timed release fertilizer beads. They last 6 to 8 months. Low maintenance. I use the miracle gro for most of the smaller plants and plants flowering. I add SuperThrive every time I use Miracle Gro even in water propagations. These work for me. There are acid fertilizers for acid loving plants like evergreens, roses, tomatoes and such.

That’s great to know! I’m just beginning my plant journey so I’m learning as I go. I appreciate the help!
