# I think i got thrips or gnats? Ive have plants for a couple years but…

I think i got thrips or gnats? Ive have plants for a couple years but i recently bought a ton since spring here 😅. I cant tell which plant it’s coming from because I have them all on one plant stand as I have a kid and a cat. I also keep them together to help a little bit with the humidity for some of my plants that need high humidity and I know that pests enjoy that. I tried to let the soil dry out completely to avoid this, but we all come across this eventually. I just haven’t dealt with this before now I’m treating with those yellow sticky traps everywhere to get adult adults and now I want to treat the larvae or any babies. I’m going to go to the store today to grab some stuff and I was thinking of some mosquito bits and a spray. What would you recommend recommendations be to help with this so I can go out and buy some products to help them

I had similar problem. I will add sand on top of the soil. Watering from the bottom will also help.

If you have gnats I suggest sprinkling some cinnamon on top of the soil and keeping the sticky trap there as well 😊 I had thrips on one of my new monstera leaves and I treated it with a mix of isopropyl alcohol and water  
I also repotted the monstera.

I was doing a bunch of replanting over the weekend. Some of my older plants from when I really didn’t know what I was doing needed better soil mixes. Google recommended that I take my orchid, bark mixture and put it on top of plants for decoration and also to discourage gnats from being able to access the soil.

It has only been a couple days for me, but I figured I would pass that info along!
