# The cashier at a nursery once told me not to fertilize my indoor…

The cashier at a nursery once told me not to fertilize my indoor plants during the winter months. Is this a thing?? I live in ND so winter is basically Oct-April. I have grow lights on every day through the winter. Many of them have been shedding leaves but growing back a little more full with fertilizing so I don’t really want to stop!! But also want to give them a rest if they need it??

Different people have different philosophies about this, but my thought is: if your plants are in a warm house and have a bright grow light, they will keep growing. And if they’re growing, they’ll need fertilizer to power them. I think the idea of not fertilizing plants during the winter applies more to people who don’t use supplemental lighting or who keep their plants in a cool place like a winter greenhouse

As long as the plant is actively growing, I fertilize.

Same. My plants grow all year so I feed them all year even my cacti are actively growing I the dead of winter because they are warm and get the best light. Th e only exception would be my plants that grow from corms or bulbs like oxalis, amaryllis or calcium.

Oct-April is 6 months of winter! At that rate you’d hardly ever fertilize, repot, propagate, anything. Lol

It’s oddly warm right now, but on a normal year that’s not even an exaggeration. Absurd, really!

Also - thank you for the input :)
