# Hi!! New plant mom here! So I’ve acquired a few plants over the past…

Hi!! New plant mom here! So I’ve acquired a few plants over the past couple months and have them set up on my windowsill because it’s the best, and only, source of light in my tiny studio apartment.

While propagating my monstera it was taking awhile to grow roots and my friend suggested I move it farther away from the window because it might’ve been too cold. I then realized that there was a small draft coming through that window, and whether it was time or temperature the prop started growing roots a little bit after moving it (about a month total prop time.)

Now I’m wondering how big of a deal the draft is? Should I sacrifice sunlight for temperature? Thanks!

I recommend getting a grow light.

I would seal out the draft. There are putties that you can push into drafty cracks, or shrink plastic that will make the whole window warmer.

Outdoor temperatures vary too much. You risk damaging your plants. Get a grow light. One table top or clip on grow light should be enough for those small plants. A large monstera may need a floor tripod light that can still be useful as all the plants grow larger.

You can buy a floor standing grow lamp or add a grow light bulb to a standard floor lamp.

That picture is from the internet. But, Amazon and eBay has them. Search “wire cage industrial farmhouse” or a combination of those terms.

I’m a fan of your posts! We are Planta friends! I avoid most social media sites. Scary people including my relatives on there.🤣
