I have a pine tree that I have planted into soil from a seed I don’t know how to tell if there has been any growth within the around a month it has been planted.

You have to gently disturb the soil to look for roots. You risk damaging the roots by doing this. Keep the soil evenly moist and provide heat to the soil with a heat mat designed for seedlings. This gives it a better chance of success.
