# Hello! I’m new here, and new to being a plant dad lol. I have a plant…

Hello! I’m new here, and new to being a plant dad lol. I have a plant that I’m trying to save, I brought it from my mom’s house whilst she’s away in Honduras, no one was taking care of it for her and it was completely dry. I brought it home to see if I can save it, I am unsure on what to do.. I think I may have overwatered it. What else can I do to save it? I’ve thought about repotting it because the soil is quite a few years old, and I think it may benefit from being in a bigger pot? I’m open to any advice, thank you much!

The pot size is good enough. You want just want to cut the yellowing leaves the leggy stem. Just give it a fresh cut. Water if it hasn’t gotten any water or if the first 2 inches of the soil are completely dry. Make sure it gets enough sunlight and it should survive!

What are the leggy stems?

The long parts of the stem that have no leaves. I’m also from Honduras btw

So they both have to go in order for the plant to survive?

I would cut that right?

Yes I personally like to cut the leggy stems, but it is up to you. A fresh cut never hurts

I agree with keeping the same pot. Repotting can add stress to a plant from broken roots, exposure to bacteria/fungus, soil chemical change and watering issues. Repot only when necessary.

Trimming those extra long vines gives the plant a chance to put energy into growing fresh undamaged leaves. The plant will look fuller and healthier. Fertilize with diluted liquid fertilizer once a month in winter, more frequently in warmer weather. Soil should be well draining. Keep in bright indirect sunlight or a grow light.

Awesome, so if I cut off those vines could I grow another plant from them?

How short should I trim the vines?

Cut back the long vines to the edge of the pot. The new growth will start at the pot making the plant look bushy.

You can propagate the cut vines in water or other medium. You need 1 or 2 leaf nodes per cutting. Put one leaf node under water. Roots will grow at the node in about 2 weeks. Add SuperThrive plant vitamins to the water. Change the water weekly or sooner if cloudy. Remove all leaves under water to prevent rot and bacterial infections in the water.

Repot in soil when the roots are 2 inches or more. You can put some of the cuttings with roots back into this pot to fill in the black spots.
