# My MIL got me this ficus for Christmas. Wondering if anyone has…

_Posted by KD 🪴 on 2024-01-04_

My MIL got me this ficus for Christmas.
Wondering if anyone has experience with these plants, how common it is that they drop leaves (obviously it has a lot of them- acclimation prob/stress?). Also any thoughts on the burgundy spots on the bottom of some leaves.

It’s dropped a number of leaves. It was quarantined for a week, but I just saw some tiny oblong white bugs in the tray it sits in. And realized it has fungus gnats.
Treating with Systemic Granules \& diatomaceous earth.

Thanks all! 🫶

Oh my, sorry to hear about the bugs! You can also try watering with a peroxide solution. But if you have fungus gnats, definitely let her dry out before watering again.

I have a sweetheart tree. She is, indeed, quite particular. She continued to drop at least one leaf a day until I gave her a grow light (in addition to the south-facing window light she was already getting) and a humidifier.

She’s no longer dropping leaves, but isn’t quite ready to replace the ones she lost, either. Trying to be patient.
