# can someone tell me what the heck is going on with my zz plant…

can someone tell me what the heck is going on with my zz plant 😂😮‍💨 the leaves were starting to look light green / almost yellow so i was like let me check the roots (which are total mush)… what are these bulbs? also in the second picture in the center it looks like a popped bulb?

all i can do is laugh. i’m pretty good at keeping things alive but of course one of my ‘easier’ plants decides to do this LOL

Popped bulb means over watering and not adequate drainage.

Oopsies 😅 Well for next time, ZZs really hate to be over watered. I think mine is on a once a month-ish schedule. They’d much rather be forgotten than watered too often. Maybe the soil mix wasn’t drying out fast enough? Either way, the bulbs are normal. It’s like a rhizome/tuber type plants. If the roots root, the bulbs can keep going unless they’ve gone mushy too. But yeah, I was also surprised the first time I unpotted a ZZ 😂

Noooo! Dig it out of the trash I think it will be fine. Just combine the tips from other folks and start again. Chunky well draining mix, let it dry all the way to the bottom every time. You got this!
