# What in the heck is this? My Peperomia albovittata ‘Piccolo Banda’…

_Posted by Rhona on 2023-12-02_

What in the heck is this? My Peperomia albovittata ‘Piccolo Banda’ (Peacock) has been looking a little sad. I think it’s beginning too much direct light. And I am an overwater so I think I’ve overwatered it a bit. So I decided to take it out of its nursery soil and give it more drainage. And when I did I saw this thing. It looks like a ball or a net of dirt. It’s attached to the roots. It did fall off after I took this photo so hopefully that’s OK.

That’s a grower’s pot leftover from the nursery. It’s best to remove them because they can end up strangling the roots after a while.

Thank you so much. I’ve never seen that before. It did eventually fall off, but I hope it hasn’t hurt my plant. My plant has been struggling for a month or so. Probably also due to too much sun and overwatering on my part but I’ve almost panicked when I saw this. Thank you so much again.

No problem! I don’t think it has done much damage, since the plant is so small. Hopefully it will bounce back :)

It’s the sack of death. They have caused more death to plants than can be imagined.

How do I know it’s in a plant pot when we’re told to not change out a plant as soon as you bring it home from the nursery pot?
