Is this a suitable sized pit for this cactus, or is it too big?

Also, does anyone know why this cactus is flattened? It’s gradually flattened over the past few months

That pot is to big, the cactus might end up rotting in there as the soil won't dry out quick enough. Also make sure to put it in a pot with drainage. It might be one of those trailing cacti, they kind of creep along the floor or it could be due to rot. Also I'm pretty sure those yellow flowers are fake

Thank you! And yes, they are fake unfortunately :(

I would upgrade to a pot size two - three inches bigger so you don't shock the roots, remember drainage or plants in pain-age. Apologizes for the dad joke, had too.

Great thank you!

Are the individual stems soft and moveable? If so, you’re likely dealing with root rot. I hope not. If not, it could be a characteristic specific to this type of cactus. I have one that looks similar and is beginning to flatten out, and I’m sure it doesn’t have root rot.

Uh oh, yes, the individual stems are soft and movable. Suggestions for dealing with root rot??

Gently take the cactus out of the pot. I use gloves and newspaper to protect my hands. Then trim away any mushy brown bits—that’s the rotted part. Then rinse what’s left and let it sit in a bright spot for at least 48 hrs to callus over. After that, you can replant it again. I’d use regular succulent/palm/cactus potting mix for the first year to make it easier for the roots to grow. Then when you repot later, you can always go with a grittier mix. Make sure the cactus has good drainage in the new pot. I give mine a tiny bit of water once a month. Seems to be working so far. Good luck!

Thank you for the detailed answer!

Agree to check root rot, especially if it doesn’t have drainage holes but cacti will droop if they’re not getting full sun as well!

To big I thing. Not yet. But it will be cute when it’s big enough
