# I just bought a grow light for my maranta as she barely prays anymore…

_Posted by super hans on 2023-10-30_

I just bought a grow light for my maranta as she barely prays anymore and I’m wondering if it’s due to the weather here changing into the dark seasons. I know marantas prefer indirect like so does anyone have any tips? How long to leave on for/what setting etc? Thanks!

how strong are your grow lights? the photosynthetic photon flux density (ppfd) should be somewhere on either the packaging or the manufacturer’s website. lower ppfd would mean your lights should be closer and on longer than lights with a higher ppfd.

They weren’t expensive so probably not strong. It says “PPFD 116 umol/m ²/s”

I’ve currently got it on around 7/10 brightness setting, pointed up towards the ceiling so its brightening the entire room but it’s not directly on the plants, and I’m using it for around 4-6 hours a day. I’m brand new to using them so I’m just sort of figuring out what they seem to like but would be good to have some advice to give me a head start!
