I found a huge bag of various ocean creature shells while thrifting yesterday. Have any of you ever used smashed-up shells as a soil amendment? I didn’t see any real complicated side effects when reading about that subject. Thanks!

I think oyster shells are used as an amendment for some vegetative plants to add calcium or for pH sensitive plants that like or change color in basic soil

i’ve never tried it but i can’t imagine crushed shells being much different than coarse sand, shells are after all a huge portion of beach sand

I have used crushed up shells in my succulents and found no issues.
