# Hi I just have a quick question. I’m new to caring for plants and I…

Hi I just have a quick question. I’m new to caring for plants and I have 9 plants that I have to water and take care of. The planta app has the watering times all over the place, which I do expect for two of the plants as they are more like houseplants rather than succulents/cacti. I just wanted to know if there is a good way to sync the days of watering? Like some of them have about the same watering frequency, but need to be watered on different days. I want to have like a certain day every two weeks so that I will be able to remember and be consistent with caring for my plants. Would it be ok for me to either water some early or water some late?

The plants will determine whether they like the syncing of their watering schedules. You should try it and monitor the plants. I can sync my plants in pot sizes six inches wide or larger because they don’t fully dry out between watering. The small pots below six inches have various watering times usually watering every 3 days or less especially if the soil is mostly coconut husks.

Just keep in mind it’s better to water a little late rather than early. Especially with the succulents.

I like to sync my watering days too since I have a lot of plants and don’t want to water every day. The app has them all over the place like you said but I mostly ignore that tbh. What I do is a couple times a week or even just once a week, I check all my plants soil to see if they’re dry then I water the ones that need it and Mark it on the app. That way I’m able to water several at once and make it fit my schedule. I find the plants I own are not so dramatic that they can’t wait a few days for water. When I had a Calathea though she DID NOT like this method. lol.

Okay I’m seeing other great comments on here too. I thought I’d add that I notice certain plants tend to be still moist even when Planta tells me to water, while other plants of mine tend to dry out faster than the app suggests. (I guess it doesn’t help that the amount of water I give at 1 time can vary!) If you take note of what your plants tend to do, that might help you decide which ones are okay (or even better!) to be watered early vs late relative to your Planta recommendations!

I have over 70 house plants And I just water 1-2x a week. Yeah, my plants would be a little happier if I was more consistent, but waiting a little longer is fine. It’s extremely unlikely that a plant will die if you wait 3 days to water it.

Also don’t water just cuz the app tells you to, that’s how you overwater. Always check the soil, over time you’ll get to know your plants well, and it will feel less like a guessing game. :)

The last thing I’ll add is that your soil and pot choices will dictate how often you water. Terracotta will need watered more frequently, a loose chunky soil mix will also require more watering. Non-porous pots will need less attention, and a more compact, dense soil mix will require less watering.
