Do y’all just do soil or do you mix anything with your soil for house plants?

I always mix my own.

Tropicals:
50% regular potting mix
50% - equal parts perlite/orchid bark/lava rock

Succulents:
50% cactus/succulent potting soil
50% perlite

I almost never use “all purpose potting soil”. It’s almost always too dense and water logging. As others mentioned above ^^ mix with something to add more drainage such as sand, perilite, mulch, chunky bark, a rock layer, etc. good luck!

I make my own. It’s super easy and cheap too. I use Miracle Gro indoor potting mix (gray bag), perlite, and orchid bark for all of my plants except succulents/cacti. I mix 50% soul, 25% perlite, and 25% bark. I do the same ratios for succulents/cacti but I use succulent/cacti soil instead of regular soil.

I rarely (if ever) use any type of soil for indoor plants. My plants all live in a mix of coco chips, coco coir, perlite, pine bark, charcoal and pumice. I grow primarily aroids.

Don’t use perlite for succulents. It’s a light material that, overtime, rises to the surface from watering. Eventually leaving your soil tight and not porous.

Instead use expanded shale, decomposed granite, sand and then of course, soil.
