# Hello! I’m extremely new to looking after any plants so I’m still…

Hello! I’m extremely new to looking after any plants so I’m still learning from scratch. I’ve had this two miniature rose pots in my kitchen window behind the sink and they’ve been doing good for about 3 weeks but in the last few days the petals have started to brown. I’m wondering what might be causing this or how to get back to health, if I can?

They have part sun part shade and I water them once a week. I keep the soil moist but not soaking so I don’t think I’m overwatering. I don’t use fertiliser currently.

It’s quite cold here currently so I don’t think it’s caused by too much sun but I’m not sure.

Should I cut some of the browning ones off or can they come back to health?

Please don’t judge, I’m a complete beginner so I know nothing!

I know nothing about roses turning brown. So, I googled it. It’s probably a fugal issue called botrytis blight that turns the rose brown. Lots of information including videos are online with remedies.

How strange! I’ll look into that thanks so much for your response. I gave up looking online because it gave me a thousand different answers so I thought I’d just ask other plant parents 😂

Not too sure about roses but could it be the natural cycle? I know other plants like alocasia’s lose leaves when it starts to get cold and there’s less daylight hours to conserve energy.

Not a rose expert by any means myself but this is what I was thinking. Flowers don’t last forever, could just be the natural order of things.

Yeah, the leaves and everything else look great to me and like you said, they’ve already been bloomed for 3 weeks so

Thank you both! They felt a little dry so I watered a day early today and pruned them back and they’re looking a lot better. I have some lovely blooms on some of them so I’m hoping to keep those ones fresh for as long as I can!

Cutting the spent blooms back should encourage more blooms.

Thank you! I did this today and they look a lot better. Had to say goodbye to a lot of them but I have some beautiful ones left on there still
