# Hi all! New to the app and did my first round of misting yesterday…

_Posted by Keera on 2023-09-30_

Hi all! New to the app and did my first round of misting yesterday (I’ve never really misted my plants before), only to notice all my plants are now covered in limescale (I believe) :( I live in London so should have thought about this prior, but any tips - do you use filtered or cooled boiled water? Going to be a bit of a job descaling them all! Thanks in advance!

I buy distilled water for my sensitive plants, countertop steam oven and irons. A Brita pitcher is what my sister uses to filter drinking water in her city.
A humidifier may be better. The benefits vs. risks of misting has been an online debate for years. Misting can leave standing water that could develop powdery mildew and other issues if the water droplets don’t quickly dry. Who knows?🤷🏽‍♀️
May I ask if you filter the shower/bathtub/sink water? I can’t imagine the dryness from washing in that. I have hard water in my town. It’s not that bad. But, it’s annoying and I use a lot of lotion. I’m just being curious.

Also, use vinegar diluted with a little water to wipe the leaves. I do this often to remove hard water stains on my leaves.

I use tap water filtered through a “zero water” filter pitcher, that has been standing for at least 24 hours so the chlorine dissipates. I use it in a mister, not a spray bottle, and make sure it dries quickly. It is not humid here- at all (central coast of California, USA) it’s a desert lol I also use a small humidifier closest to the group of plants that are super into high humidity. It’s worth noting that we also do not have central AC, and rarely run the central heating.

I just don’t mist plants. I don’t think it helps anyways 🙈

Thanks everyone! Will use filtered water in the future. Mon - I’ve never misted either but willing to give it a go and see how my plants like it (for a little while anyway)!
