(unpopular?) plant opinions!
i’ll list some of mine, you share some of yours. let’s see if we agree or agree to disagree!
1\. i don’t like coloured plants (ie. not green/white)
2\. small leaves > big leaves
3\. hanging/trailing plants >> climbing plants
4\. growing plants in leca (ie. semi-hydro) is majorly underrated
5\. hoya is the best genus
6\. cacti/succulents are easy to care for, and grow quite quickly during the growing season
7\. when people say that they don’t like peperomia, i cry (justice for peperomia hope)
8\. i hate golden pothos, i think yellow variegation just makes plants look dead
enjoy the unrelated photo of my bear paw succulent blooms 🥹🌿

1\. I love color - not many crotons or bromeliads but more like begonias and Hoyas
2\. I think it depends on the plant but yes I love tiny leaves!!!
3\. I want to have some climbing plants to see them size up but I just don’t think they’re as pretty! I do love some plants when they’re on trellises tho :)
4\. Semi hydro is totally underrated! I really want to get more into semi hydro
5\. YESS HOYA AND BEGONIA
6\. I totally agree, as long as they have enough light and aren’t being overwatered. My euphorbia grew 6-8 inches this summer (it lives outside)!
7\. I really want a peperomia hope :)
8\. I am also definitely more of a fan of albo variegation and think aurea can more often look sick or dying

oh true i do like hoya splashiness or sun stressing, but for some reason sun stressing reads differently than a coloured plant to me. i worked hard for that colour lmao

Unpopular opinions:
1\. Charging extra for variegated plants should be illegal. I still can’t wrap my head around charging $200+ for a monstera or auctioning off an inner variegated hoya Hindu rope for $8k!
2\. Planta and the Planta community share part of the blame for my elevated plant addiction and rapidly decreasing bank account!😆 I never had owning a certain plant on my bucket list next to visiting Itaewon and the Taj Mahal before downloading Planta! I’m going broke and I am broken! (But, I’m a happier person because of plant therapy and the community discussions and I thank you guys!🥰🪴 😍🙏🏾)
3\. Hoyas need more exposure like they were Thai Constellations or PPPs.
4\. Pothos plants are underrated considering the golden or plain green pothos are in almost every movie with an office scene for decades.

Yeah planta, pay up 😆

1\. i can’t even believe how much people spend on a single plant. that could die. like if you lose a leaf you lose hundreds of dollars. i’m trying to think the max i’ve spent on a plant… i think $30CAD, for my hoya serpens and variegated bear paw. probably some other hoya or larger plants too, i recently got a small monstera thai con for only $20CAD. but $40/$50CAD on a good-sized plant is probably my budget. everyone can set their own, i’m not judging. unless your budget is in the thousands. then i’m judging.

100% agree with #8! Yellow variegation just looks sickly to me!

And yes to Sunny’s #1! Hate how they gouge prices on variegated plants! Its a good thing I have no interest in those! Savings! Lol 😂

#### ashten replied on 2023-09-28

yeah but facebook marketplace has been having great deals where i’m from recently! i find so many plants that aren’t even in stores for $5-10 on marketplace

#### ashten replied on 2023-09-28

and i saw a small epipremnum pinnatum aurea, or whatever they’re called, for $30. that is just a fancy golden pothos. robbery

Yellow variegation looks like rays of sunlight to me😭🥺 and doesn’t brown off nearly as fast as white (in my experience)
It’s often less boring imo than regular variegation (monstera aurea!!!)

### Amanda 🌸 commented on 2023-09-29

My unpopular plant opinion is that thai constellations are UGLYYY in comparison to any other monstera…… not worth the hundreds of dollars they go for rn

1\. When choosing a plant, I usually pick the smallest one I can find (preferably with a bunch of roots hanging out of the bottom!)

2\. I also choose the one that looks like it needs the most help. I don’t want it dying; I want it healthy enough to bounce back pretty quickly… but if I see a tropical plant, that was clearly dropped or something, now on clearance (at the grocery store, where people are really only buying plants bc “oohhh that’s pretty!”) … I’m a sucker. Not bc of the price but I just think “I’m going to save you.”

3\. Propagating is fun and my MOST preferred way of obtaining plants!

4\. Grow lights are GREAT!

1-3 are really about my relationship with the plants. I feel a much stronger bond if I can grow them from as small as possible. I’m also learning that I can even “train” most of them to look the best in their spot.

4 I stumbled upon because I thought I had a rotten thumb. Turns out my apartment has incredibly high humidity and almost ZERO sunlight. (Seriously. Turn all the lights out in the middle of the day in summer and there’s still virtually no light in here.) I’m right off the river with a very dense patch of trees coming all the way from there to just feet from my building. I’ve got two balconies (S facing and E facing) and both are completely covered in shade! Now grow lights and tropical plants are my besties and it turns out I have a pretty green thumb after all!

(This reflection was a really fun way to check out this feature in the app! Thanks for posting!)
