If I want my pothos to grow long and bushy, is pot size a big consideration or is that less important? I have some smaller pots (6”) but am hoping to get them like 6’ or so.

The pot size doesn’t matter when it comes to length as much as just keeping the soil healthy \& fertilized. To get the bushy look, you can take cuttings, propagate, \& replant in the same pot 🖤

Thanks - these new pots are propagated from my main mother, but I just wasn’t sure if I needed a bigger pot to get longer growth or if pot size wasn’t a factor as much in pothos length

Over time the pot will get bushy as in there will be new starts that will come out of the soil. I have experienced it with all 6 varieties that I currently have. You can also take a tail (a long part) and put it in the pot (without cutting) and the nodules will grow into roots.

As the pothos gets bushier and longer, it will likely need to be up-potted. You’ll know when water runs through it very fast and starts to dry out more rapidly. This will take some time, tho!

is there any rule of thumb for length of the plant vs. pot width? If I trim it back will the roots not need a bigger pot or is it inevitable?

I’d say it is inevitable because it will grow more and more roots and absorb all the nutrients from the soil. One option instead of up potting is, when the roots are growing out the bottom of the pot and the soil is depleted, take it out of the soil, trim the roots back so the roots will have room in the same pot (1-2 inches of soil on the bottom and sides of the pot), and give it new soil. I may be a lil upset from this process, but pothos bounce back quick and then you can keep the same pot and pot size
