Hi everyone!
My Aglaonema will not dry out for the life of me! I keep pushing back watering because the soil has been very damp for weeks now. The pot has drainage I even left it outside for a week in the heat to try and dry it out a bit.

Thoughts?

Soil type? Better drainage and possibly check your root health

I think it’s the roots! You may need to size down in the pot. (Which usually ends up being the case for soil that won’t dry out. Too much space in the pot means the roots are unable to soak up all the water. I’ve found when I’ve done this, nothing can dry out that stupid soil except a repotting or lots of fans. If it’s not the roots and you know they take up plenty room in the pot, I’d refer to plant ninja’s comment and check on that soil mix!

I find I have have to snooze my aglaonema a few times. But I would also check for the presence of a “death plug.” It’s a plastic mesh or little basket around the roots under the soil. Both my aglaonema had those. I didn’t know until I repotted them and found out their root systems were so stunted. They’ve grown so much more since I removed the plastic and the roots can fill up the pot now

Thank you all! I’ll investigate!

Yeah the pot might be too big for it’s roots, that’s why the soil is retaining water rather than the roots drinking it
