# Embarrassing but it happens. I totally over tortured this poor…

_Posted by Christine on 2023-09-16_

Embarrassing but it happens. I totally over tortured this poor maranta. Potted it wrong, over watered etc.. it’s being blasted with humidity and some parts look like they might recover. Would you pull out what looks good and separate and prop the rest and see what happens before it declines more?

I would get it out of the terra cotta pot and put it into a plastic one that’s an inch or two smaller. Then I would cut back all the rolled up leaves. If the stems/roots are still healthy, new leaves will grow back! Your idea of separating and propping would work too

Terra cotta is porous and soaks up the moisture in the soil unlike other materials like plastic. Marantas prefer to live in moist soil, so a plastic pot is my recommendation. Terra cotta is great for cacti, succulents, ficus, and dracaena

Could you mark how far it goes in soil?

Do you mean like that? I’d just make sure the roots are covered

I finished a dog walk and figured it out lol. Humidity, we’re solving for that. Ty

The stems seem to have root rot, did u cut the yellow/brown off before repotting?

### Christine commented on 2023-09-16

Ok yes!! Here’s what’s good - the rest are gonna recoup in water. I just don’t wanna risk the good part declining

This doesn’t look right and I know you suggest plastic but I’m notorious for overwatering

Can you bury it more so that that node is covered? I would still suggest a smaller pot even if you still use terra cotta

I don’t know why I put the 2 stems in there.. they do both have rhizomes though

#### Tee Jay replied on 2023-09-16

Looks better! You may get lucky with the rhizomes!

I put the curled up ones in water. :( if I can revive this one.. I will name him Lazarus lol

I find my marantas root easily, but there has to be a beefy node!
