# new plant owner here with my first monstera which was recently bought…

_Posted by Danny on 2023-08-27_

new plant owner here with my first monstera which was recently bought in the past few days in this condition :). the leaves are all very curled upwards, which i believe to be a sign of under watering, and so i bottom watered it about 3 days ago with plenty of water and placed it in a north facing window which gets plenty of indirect bright sunlight. it has loads of brown crispy bits toward the bottom of the plant, and there’s one leaf which is extremely soft and rips at the slightest movement. i was wondering if the brown bits and fragile leaf should be pruned off? and as well as the small leaves with no fenestrations. should these be pruned off to encourage and make room for leaves with fenestrations? i was hoping to see some sort of sign that the plant was improving, but it still seems very sad. any tips? thanks :)

Hi there! What a beautiful monstera:) the brown bits are fine and normal but if you want to prune the leaf that isn’t doing well, I would recommend that because thatll remove unnecessary energy that the plant is supplying for that leaf

awesome, okay!! :) do you know anything about the other leaves curling upwards ? they seem absolutely fine except for the fact of being like folded in on themselves, but the smaller leaves don’t seem to have the same issue 🤔

I believe it’s the amount of humidity in the air, monsteras love humidity so if you have a humidifier I would recommend using it and you should see an improvement within a week
If you don’t have a humidifier you can mist it, you would have to mist it very often though
