# We have these weird brown dots on our bird of paradise, and I don’t…

_Posted by Kate Mac on 2023-08-19_

We have these weird brown dots on our bird of paradise, and I don’t know what they are. I don’t believe they’re any kind of bug because we haven’t seen any in our house, and I am quite perplexed. Any thoughts or advice are greatly appreciated 🙏

If the dots don’t move, they’re likely waste left behind by a bug. It might be so small that you haven’t spotted it yet, like thrips unfortunately. Have you seen any yellow patches or channels in the leaves that look like a big ate away at the surface?

It looks like there are webs as well. I’d be worried about spider mite damage.

I think this is more dust than webs haha. The side effects of living on the ground floor of the city

Thank you both! How would you recommend to handle? I was thinking of cleaning the leaves and plant with soap and water, and then putting both fresh top soil and some coffee grounds
