My parents surprised me with this plant from Lowe’s and I'm so confused about the potting arrangement 😭 It's like moss I think with maybe a rope around it and I fr don't know what to think abt it! If I do repot it im going to get orchid bark but I'm not sure what pot size/ type I will get yet. Please send advice in the comments!!

That’s a kokedama! If you google “how to care for kokedama” there are lots of helpful articles :) and if you don’t want to keep it in a kokedama I think you can take it apart and put it in soil as usual

Thanks! She's taken over! My neighbors have taken some of her babies. She is several plants in one now but as long as she is happy, we just let her be

If you keep it in this set up, just submerge in water once a week and make sure it stays moist

I recently repotted a plant from Lowe’s in a similar setup. Looked like kokedama but wasn’t. It was planted in a plastic bag and then wrapped in moss so the watering frequency was way less than traditional kokedama. I have a sneaking suspicion yours is the same. Try squeezing the moss ball. If you hear a cellophane crinkle, you’ll know your answer. If so, you can treat it like any other potted plant.

is there any way to salvage the “kokedama” 😭😭

Just treat it like a potted plant and you should be fine. I had mine I’m the same setup for 2 years or so with no problems.
