# Hello Planta community! Meet Mateo. He was given to me nearly 2 years…

Hello Planta community! Meet Mateo. He was given to me nearly 2 years ago, but I haven’t entered him into my Planta app because I have no clue what type of plant he is! I was thinking orchid, but he hasn’t flowered yet. Planta ID’d him as an aloe (I’m dubious). On the other hand, I have been watering him like a succulent and he’s doing well. Any ideas?

I don’t think it’s an orchid. The leaves are much wider and they have aerial roots

It reminds me of an airplant but it’s very large.

def not aloe, possibly an agave variety?

I’m thinking Navajo princess (Agave demeesteriana Jacobi), I’m fairly certain it’s an agave.

You are probably right about it being an agave. Thick base on the leaves and looks stiff.

Thanks, everyone, for the great suggestions! I realized that I forgot to mention that the leaves are bendable. They’re about the thickness of an orchid’s leaves, but as Freedomskai pointed out, there are no aerial roots
