Hi Group
I’ve used the diagnosis (overwatered/too dark) on Planta for my Elephant Ears and I’m just wondering if you’ve run into the same problem. I’ve just cut back 2 leaves—- they were brown and super droopy. I’m worried because, as you can see, I have another leaf going yellow. There’s also some mushrooms!! 😱

I did the same to my elephant ears and no matter what I did they just all died off. I just have a lil stump and roots that I’m praying with come back to life since the roots look good! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for ya 🤞

Same!

Could you give us some more information to hopefully give an accurate assessment?
\- How long ago did you get the plant?
\- Did you recently repot it?
\- How often do you water?
\- What conditions is she living in? (Light, humidity, soil)
\- Have you checked for pests?
\- Have you checked the roots?

It might still be acclimating from the repot and to its new spot. Did you repot into an appropriate pot size for the size of the roots? Alocasia like to be snug on their pots. They also like a chunky soil mix. For what I can see on your picture, the soil looks a bit dense so it might be staying too wet for too long which could be leading to rot. I would avoid misting the leaves because it can lead to fungal issues, especially on Alocasia. Unless you have really good (and I mean REALLY good) airflow.
Are you fertilizing?

I do fertilize (with the Planta schedule, all purpose). I’m thinking it may be that the pot is too large. I’ll check out the roots today and move it to a smaller pot if needed.
Thank you Ana!!

Of course! And sometimes when you repot, if you mess with the roots a lot, they can throw a fit. They don’t like having their roots disturbed. So it might be normal and it will calm down soon enough 😊

Ah! 😱😱 ok. So I just took it out and this guy fell out of what looks like a pod thing.
Roots seem intact. So I’ll repot them, separately, into smaller containers

Oh yes! They definitely need smaller pots. Maybe a 4 inch for the bigger one and a 3 inch for the smaller one if you want to keep them separate. It might be too late for this since you probably already repotted them but make sure to use a chunky mix as well 😊

I’m dealing with the same thing right now with my elephant ear! After a new leaf comes in, an old one gets soft and droopy and effectively dies. Hopefully someone has answers

Much Smaller pot.
Airier/chunkier soil.
Water when at least 50% dry.
Don’t mist.
LOTS AND LOTS of highest indirect light you can give them. They like HIGH light. No direct sun.

This leaf has a fungal infection, so I’m sure that’s not helping the problem. I think you may be keeping things too moist. Definitely avoid misting the leaves with water. I would cut off the infected area at least, if not the whole leaf. Fungal infections spread very easily
