I put small rocks up to about a half inch in the bottom of any pots without drainage before I fill them with soil. That way the roots of the plant aren’t sitting in any water that drains to the bottom :)

i’ve thought about doing this too!

Use the decorative pots as a catch pot! Just put your plant in one of those black plastic pots with lots of drainage, then put it inside one of the pretty, decorative pots!
Just make sure whenever you water not to leave your plant sitting in water or else it will could get root rot.

I do this too!

This is exactly what I do. I find it so much easier to be able to take it out and check it, rather than wondering if there’s water sitting at the bottom of the pot and worrying about it all the time!

thank you so much i think this is what i’m going to do! ☺️

Pots with just one drainage hole are okay but I don’t recommend pots with no drainage :) there are some ways that you can drill holes in the bottom of them with special drill bits I think. I haven’t tried this tho

i HAVE drilled into pots and recommend it. I bought this pack of diamond drill bits on Amazon for under $10 that does the trick.

Just make sure to keep the bottom of your pot wet to avoid overheating the bit, and start slow.

First choice would 100% be what Ada recommended!! It’s pretty risky watering in a pot with no drainage.

If that’s not possible, I would make sure to carefully try to dump out any excess water each time you water your plants, and make sure you never overwater it! I recommend getting a moisture meter stick to help with this!! It was $8 on Amazon when I got mine and it’s amazing!!

I’m on team cache pot. Most of my plants are in plastic nursery pots with drainage, then that pot gets a fancy cover pot to live in. It makes it a million times easier to repot from a squish-able plastic nursery pot than a hard pot. Especially if it gets root bound.
So you just pull the plastic pot out of its decorative one, water it, let it drip through, then when stopped dripping, stick it back in cover pot. Easy.
