🤓Poll of the day:
What is success to you as a plant parent?
What is failure as a plant parent?

My take on it:
Success to me is anytime I have learned something about a plant, even if its what NOT to do next time. Even if a plant has died in my care, but I learned why, thats success!

Failure to me is repeating the same mistake 3 times without having learned it the first 2. AND learning nothing due to lazy lack of research, or lazy lack of doing what I learned.

My most successful plant has been my Pitcher Plant, and my fail has been one of my spotted calla lilies.

So you measure success by the happiness or fullness or aliveness of each plant?

I 100% agree with the OP takes on success and failure 👍

My biggest success with plants would probably be all my propagations, specifically my orchid propagations. My biggest failure is probably every plant I’ve lost to spider mites.

So would you say you measure failure by the inability to combat pests on each plant?

Basically. I’d say I measure failure by the inability to save a plant from pests/diseases/damage.

My biggest success is my monstera and definitely my orchids. And my biggest fail is the calthea I honestly don’t know what happened other than not enough humidity? I’m not sure. But it broke my heart ♥️.

What is it about those “successes” and “failures” do you attribute to being so? If you don’t know what happened to your Calathea and you didn’t learn from it, will you try again? Or research more about them before trying again?

The success with the orchid is because orchids are hard. Very hard. Very high maintenance. I’m very proud I have been able to keep it alive and now it’s producing new leaves. One has two coming at once. My monstera is my biggest success because it’s gotten so big so fast. Even my mini ones. I’ve learned so much about plants on here and the internet. Plus from everyones experiences/advice. When you lose someone you love who taught you every thing you know. I had a lot of self doubt my ability to have a green thumb. I also am very proud of how successful I have been with my African Violets as well. My nana used to grow them. She’s the one that taught me. When she passed I had a lot of self doubt I couldn’t do it. I’m saying this now almost 100 plants in.
The calthea I learned about it. Understood I didn’t really give it the proper living environment nor the right humidity. But I’m not going to try again right now. Maybe when I purchase a home and have more space for my babies.

Beautiful. Thank you for sharing! And yes, I agree that is success! Even your Calathea is success in my eyes because you learned something and next time (whenever you are ready) you will do it differently! 🌿
