How should I bring my alocasia back from dormancy?

I’ve had my Alocasia Bambino for over a year. In August/September last year it lost almost all its leaves. Then as the last one was completely yellowed 2 new leaves sprouted. They lasted until mid December, and fell off when I came back from winter break in mid January. Since January I’ve kept it in the dirt \& very little watering. I’ve read they come back in the spring but mine hasn’t. It’s firm and doesn’t feel rotted.

I was thinking of putting it in a jar with dirt (added perlite?) to increase the humidity and warmth to wake it up?

I’m not experienced with alocasias so anything helps! I don’t even know if this type goes into dormancy lol. I kept it in the planter like in my picture until today.

Well, I’ve never seen a bambino go dormant if you’re growing it inside. The roots are gone so if it is still alive, somehow you need to get those roots growing again. I’d try hormone powder and planted in moist soil. And actually, If it were me, I’d call it dead and buy a new one. 😬 You said you’ve given it very little water. That’s a problem since these guys do need water and humidity to grow and thrive. It’s possible it just died from lack of water. My experience is that these perennials grow year round for me in my house and do not go dormant and require food and water regularly. Not too wet and not too dry. I’m in the PNW and so my indoor tropicals never go outside. Maybe it’s different where you’re at? Anyway, good luck with that. But I wouldn’t feel bad about going and getting a new plant and calling it good. Nobody needs to know. 🤫

Thank you, that’s good to know!! I’m in Washington so similar climate! I wasn’t sure if it was the type to go dormant or not so I kept onto it. I kept it growing well \& watered but it suddenly dropped all it’s leaves, specifically after some were burnt in the car while moving.

give it some darkness and cooler air (for like a month) then bring it out again and put it in a plastic bag with some misted water. after a while it will grow roots and then u put it in dirt. small pot and non dense soil (perlite soil and a little orchid bark. that’s what i did with mine and it worked (surprisingly)

Yes Alocasias can go dormant and drop all there leaves, if at any point they are exposed to temps under 55 degrees. They can and will come back. But it having no roots is questionable. Try!
