To anyone with more than 50-60 plants: how do you manage care without feeling overwhelmed? I have chronic illnesses and need to be very mindful of pacing but want to have a house full of plants! I currently have 40ish species but 70ish separate plants (including propagations). I’ve thought of switching some to semi hydro and/or self watering pots. Definitely let me know your tips!

Also if you have less plants than that but have hacks/tips feel free to share those too!

I’m so happy you asked this question. I finally found an opportunity to rebuild my collection after a move several years ago, but am now permanently disabled. Now I have time and (to a limit) funds . But get overwhelmed, especially when I go through a spell of bad health days.
Luckily I’ve found these Planta groups to help me focus more on the enjoyment than my failings.
My collection pretty much just consumes one window. I’m looking at ways to place my plants that create care (such as misting) and maximizes enjoyment.

I have 200+ in a variety of locations. The app helps me make sure no one is forgotten.

Personally, caring for the plants outside is the easiest. Just grab the hose and start spraying.

Indoors, I am not shy about snoozing tasks if I don’t have the time. Luckily, about 50% of my collection are succulents and orchids. The rest are reliant enough to handle a little break.

I also let go of specimens that stress me out or don’t give me joy. There is only room for one drama queen in this house thank you very much.

If your looking for additional perspectives, I believe the podcasts On the Ledge and PlantDaddirs both spoke about dealing with large collections and feeling overwhelmed.

Oh and I deleted all the plants in the wishlist. That helped curb my impulse buying (some)

I have about 35 plants now Am 81 and trying to keep up. This App helps a lot but I thinks the best you can do is to toss, give away the ones that do not give you pleasure

I use Planta app! There’s no way I could keep up without it😉

I hear you. I feel overwhelmed with them very often, but it is a labor of love. The Planta app is the only thing that makes it possible for me to have so many. I have over 100 plants and I just have to be a lot choosier when buying new plants. Terra-cotta pots are very helpful.
