Definitely repot it. What you’ll need to do is remove any dead roots to help promote the healthy ones to thrive. Get some potting soil for orchids at the store as well and make sure it has good drainage. They don’t like sitting in standing water.

The dead roots are the ones that are light brown, correct?

Dead roots are brown or black, mush or papery. Healthy roots are firm and green when wet, silvery when dry.

So fun fact about orchids: you can grow them in either Orchid Bark or water. Don’t drain the water just keep adding water and fertilize with spray fertilizer.

It looks like you have two stems for flowers already on the orchid? If those stems are brown and no flowers on them, then you can cut the stem off the orchid. Orchids only bloom once a year and keep them blooms for a little while and then the stem dies and falls off. If your orchid is really happy, then you might get lucky and she’ll bloom twice a year.

Your orchid does look like it’s time for a repot though. Maybe searching orchid water culture as an option.

So grow them in water, you literally mean the roots directly in water? and leave the water stagnant there without drainage?

Yep! They will grow their own micro biome and just fill the water when it gets low. This is my orchid that I saved from being in the orchid bark. She grew so many roots. I would fertilize with a liquid fertilizer and take them out of the water when you do, making sure to spray the leaves and roots. Then put them back in. 🤗 I have two orchids that I grow in water. Both have produced blooms every year since. Sometimes two if I make them extra happy. This one has been in water since March 2021. My other for a little over a year and a half.
