# Fairly new plant mom here. Why does it seem that Planta keeps telling…

Fairly new plant mom here. Why does it seem that Planta keeps telling me to water my plants way more often than they need it? I was overwatering when I followed Planta’s schedule. Now I use a meter to check or I see if the pot feels lighter first because I am not sure how correct the meter is. Some of my plants still have a few yellow or brown spots on their leaves even though I’m being careful to try and not overwater them. Why does Planta have me watering them so frequently??

Great advice everyone! I’m learning very slowly. I’ll use Planta’s schedule as a “checking” schedule. I have all the correct settings in Planta. Most of my plants can go quite a long while without needing any more water. It started to feel like I was under watering but it sounds like I’m actually on the right track now. Thank you so much.

Yes! It does this to my Aloe Vera, saying to water it every 15 days, rather that every 20! I will contact Planta about this issue!

Always check. Planta can’t know how much each person waters so they can never have a perfect schedule. And for me, I buy bamboo skewers at the dollar store and I put one in every pot, cutting it to about an inch above the soil so it’s not an eyesore. I pull that stick and check it for moisture before I water each plant. I follow Planta’s watering instructions so I know how wet my plants should be when they need more water. Water meters are not accurate for me. I have yet to find one that actually works. Bamboo never lies. They need to be replaced every so often though. They don’t last forever. That’s why I buy them at the dollar store. They are my most important plant care hack.

Yes! I’ve already killed 2 plants because of this. Bought a meter and waiting for it to arrive.

This happened to me too. What I did was I figured out how often the plant needed to be watered, and then created a custom watering schedule in planta. This way, I can still get the reminder :)

I think that’s a great idea! I think I will do that!
