This is a complicated subject! Technically, the only plant types that like to be “drowned” in water would be bog type plants like papyrus or spiralis or horse hair, etc. etc. And when I say bog plants, I mean plants that are planted in a pot with no drainage holes, and literally sitting in a pool of water. All other plants should be watered with drainage holes at the bottom of pots and thoroughly so that the water wets all of the soil and all of the roots and then passes through the bottom until it drains completely free of all excess water. This, of course, is only assuming you have followed the rule of thumb that the size of the pot and soil should equal the size of the root ball. If you have an extra big pot with a lot of excess soil, that’s way bigger than your root ball, than you risk a root rot situation because the plant can’t uptake that much water that quickly before drying out again to breathe. So if you have tiny plants in big pots, you need to modify this method to only water in the center area where the roots are, and not the entire pot of soil, which may then risk not hitting all the roots with water, depending how good you are with determining how much water to give. So all in all its best to keep your pot sizes no bigger than roots and just water full pot through to drip out the bottom.
Hope that helps!

This is a good question. I have an area that floods during tropical storms and is otherwise full sun and everything I planted has died after a flood- I was thinking of planting cocoloba there but right now they are seedlings. I like the horsetail idea. I was also thinking sugar cane. Any ideas
