# Any thoughts of what perennial my friend could plant for her north…

_Posted by T on 2023-05-29_

Any thoughts of what perennial my friend could plant for her north facing garden? She’s in California. She wants a pop of color around these bushes. Something either red, yellow or purple. Thank you!

I really like Columbine. It spreads a bit, can help fill in some of the blanks, and mine are giving lovely purple blooms.

Do you know which hardiness zone?

I would add ground covering or creeping plants that will enhance the shrubs. Begonias are quite shade tolerant but a lot of them are only annuals.

Bugles, nettles (Lamium), clovers and Hostas works well in shade ☺️

Thank you, I believe she is in a 10B zone

I have purple coral bells. There’s a few different varieties so I chose part sun to full shade for my north facing house. They compliment my green plants well and they’re pretty low maintenance.

That sounds lovely. I’ve never heard of that plant

I agree with KTOS. Heuchera or coral bells would work well there
