Hi, we bought these two beautiful plants (placed on the floor, right side of the photo). Just being honest, I bought them because they LOOKED beautiful. I just have no clue how to make sure I don’t kill them. So here I am and hopped on to Planta. Showing you a picture of where it’s at. The sun comes in from the left side sliding door but it doesn’t directly hit the plants. Will the cool wind (I live in jersey city) from the sliding door coming in, affect the plant? Should I always keep the sliding door closed? Any suggestions and tips will help. I don’t want to kill them LOL they’re beautiful

I would keep them in the indirect light as much as you’re able to, it doesn’t necessarily matter that the sunlight doesn’t hit them head on. Some plants can be more sensitive to drafts than others, so if the air is particularly cool (below 60F or so) it may be too much. Once the temps drop, you can always get them a grow light so that you can keep them farther from the door. My biggest tip is to get them scanned into the app and fill in as much info as you can, and let the app guide you while you get a feel for them. They are definitely beautiful! Good luck!

The rubber tree on the left will be easy. Watered rarely but needs good drainage. I have mine next to SW window and it has done well. Calathea (on the right) is a toughie. It needs very high humidity.

Go to your local Sally’s and get a misting spray bottle. Mist them with distilled water to help with the humidity. Especially during the winter when you have the heat on. But really all year. You may want to bring them closer to the window or up off the floor to avoid the drafts of your slider. They are very beautiful!

I don’t think the draft will do anything, I’ve left windows cracked daily in 50F before with plants sitting on the windowsill over 2 weeks and they had no changes

Definitely get bright enough light for the ficus!
