# My Hoya Pubicalyx is in very good condition but has not grown at all…

My Hoya Pubicalyx is in very good condition but has not grown at all since I got her in early February. Should I be worried? Is there anything I should do to help it grow? I don’t have any of the fancy gadgets like grow lights.

This plant loves bright indirect for at least 6 hours. More light it gets, more vibrant foliage and blooms it produces.

Also, it’s a humidity addict. The pubicalyx prefers something like 70% humidity, so it’s recommended if you don’t spray it ALL the time, then keep it by a humidifier.

Keep it away from vents and air conditioner too.

It start flowering until late spring into early summer. It can take a couple years for it to start blooming though, depending on the cultivar (I.e. variegata, etc). The blooming also ENTIRELY depends on light.

Hope this helps

Unfortunately, most Hoyas are suuuuuch slow growers. Sometimes years before they bloom, too. I have about 20-something different varieties and maybe a small handful are quicker growing than others. I did, however, see a growth spurt when I chucked them all into an IKEA cabinet I turned into a greenhouse and kept the ambient humidity between 65-75% and added grow lights and fans. When you water more frequently they will grow more, too.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about. It looks healthy. Looks like it’s getting the right light. Like KMS said, Hoyas can be slow growers. I’d like to add: they take time to “settle in” to a new environment. Some will shed new growth and stay dormant for months when moved to a new home or location.
I don’t advise watering more though unless you have it in a very chunky, well draining medium.
