It’s usually advised to leave them on for 10-14 h/day but it also depends a little on what plant it is and the intensity of the grow lights

Yeah I leave mine on for 12 hours at a time

I try to mimic the duration of natural daylight where the plant is native to — my tropicals have 12h timers from roughly 0900-2100 and are set to a medium intensity with adequate space between the bulbs and plant. Most of my plants with lights are either baby plants or plants that prefer bright indirect and can tolerate direct light for a few hours. Watering depends on the plants, size, pot, lighting.. a good rule that works for me is to only water when the soil is dry dry dry on top. Most plants can handle being under watered, but almost none (of mine) can deal with overwatering. Hope that helps!
