# Thinking about buying this Japanese maple plant but I’m afraid that…

_Pubblicato da Kyoda il 2025-07-18_

Thinking about buying this Japanese maple plant but I’m afraid that it will die because I’m going to make it a indoor plant but aesthetically it’s beautiful and a powerful statement piece for my apartment. Thoughts? Should I do it? 200$ I’m willing to burn on such a piece of art.

Likely won’t survive more than a season inside. Japanese Maples require a dormancy period

What do you mean?

They require a state of inactivity (I.e. winter conditions for outdoor plants), the indoors would not allow this, and it will probably die

Dormancy in plants happens when the temperature becomes cold enough and the plant will stop growing and enter a dormant state. When the weather warms up it will begin to wake up and go through its growing period. For example Venus fly traps go through a dormancy period in the winter. If you have an indoor Venus flytrap it’s advised to keep them in a cold area like the garage or the fridge. Dormancy period in plants is essential because it allows them to grow healthier and live longer. Hope this helps!

So should I buy it? 🧍‍♀️

Personally, I wouldn’t. If you have the dedication and space then you could. During the fall/winter I would move it to a sheltered area outside if you can. If you do decide to buy it then I wish you the best of luck!

I live in an apartment so I don’t have access to such area

Then unfortunately I’m not sure if it would be a good fit. They require dormancy period or else they won’t be healthy, look good, or survive indoors. It definitely sucks not being able to have the right conditions for a plant but definitely do some research and see if you can find something else you like :)

I would not buy that unless you can duplicate exactly what they need outdoors which usually you can't. Let us know what you're going to do.
