# My spider plants got repotted into a chunky soil mix so letting soil…

_Publié par Andy le 2026-01-02_

My spider plants got repotted into a chunky soil mix so letting soil dry out a little bit before putting water into the self watering pots as soil was moist going in. Also added a humidifier and the grow light and they look like they are getting better any advice should I trim the dead growth now or wait till I go to rewater? The old soil I put them in was due to no nursery pot coming with them so had to think fast. Now they r in 2/1/1/1/.5 mix
2 part coconut coir
1 part potting soil
1 part perlite
1 part orchid bark
.5 part horticultural charcoal

Not an expert on spider plants, I do have one though, they normally like to be nearly root bound, and soil to dry out between waterings, so not sure if the self watering for them is a good idea as could lead to root issues , also pots looking to big, unless roots taking up most of the pot, normal humidity they like, I do a small mist twice a week now in winter, grow light is a good idea

I was gifted a spider plant in a self watering pot and it’s doing great; no root issues. I’d say go ahead and trim the dead parts now. I don’t think it’ll hurt anything.

Good to know, it was what I read a while ago that said they like to be in dry soil, so if yours is growing well, that’s great, so give it ago Andy
