So my boss asked if I could help her with another plant. I said “Of course! I'd love to! What kind of plant did you get this time?”
She points over to the plant table and I see this poor Calathea ornata on the floor!
“Did you set it next to the fireplace?!?!” I asked. I know these are tough plants but I've never seen one so bad.
I pick up the pot (which is actually still in a nursery pot, they will usually get repotted in the prettiest pot, no nursery, no drainage, no worries 🥹)
The cache pot is FULL OF WATER! Tap water to boot🤣🤣🤣 Welp, we found the problem!
I was most shocked to find zero root rot, so that was great. Trimmed away and planted in my chunky mix. Wish her luck!

Sorry I didn't take a before pic. I was too shocked to think!

How come a plant with leaves dark green with pink stripes just dies by staring at it? That’s unfair.
I am a calathea victim. Repeated times.

I was. I know theyre PIA plants but how? Why so much water?! So many questions.

I'm a nanny and I'm blessed to work with an amazing family. The mom (my boss) loves flowers too… she really loves to water them! Haha
I was actually so amazed when I first learned how she cared for her plants. She ONLY waters them. They have amazing paneled window so the plants are always getting great lighting but… just water? Every plant the same amount. If they die she just figures it was a bad plant! 🤣 Oh, I love her so much.
She always manages to grab the difficult ones too! 🤣

I killed my rattle snake prayer plant the other day 😣, I watered her and fell asleep so needless to say wasn’t up to check her water collecting tray. I’m pretty bummed out however think there is a part that can be propagated!!

Oh no! I'm so sorry. That's one calathea I haven't dealt with yet. I've heard they are quite difficult too. So sad but I hope your propagation works 🙏💚🙏
