# I have a question about my ficus elástica (rubber plant) she's…

_Posted by Sophie92 on 2024-06-02_

I have a question about my ficus elástica (rubber plant) she's getting lots of new growth which is great! But the last few leafs, have been growing inside eachother? Is this normal? Like one leaf will take forever to open out because a new growth is stuck inside it?

I don't know if I've been doing the right thing by peeling off the outer shell (I'll add a pic) and pretty much delicately unrolling the leaf myself 🙈 I started doing this because the first time I had a "wrap around leaf" when it opened the "new growth" snapped off with it. So I was worried I wouldn't get more new leafs.

I hope this makes sense 🙈😂 any advice welcome,
\- she lives in a big pot on a bright windowsill btw

That’s how they grow.

That’s completely normal

Oh really?! I didn't know that I wasn't sure if she was wonky 😅 I was just about to stick a support pole in for her to help her straighten out

Absolutely do that! Mine have bamboo sticks for support ☺️ they love them

I didn't have a bamboo stick but I've put a thin garden support pole in - like a very tall chopstick 😅

Those are sheaths to protect the new leaf as it grows
