# Biggest learning curve as a plant lady is recognizing when bigger is…

_Lagt ut av Peezy den 2025-06-08_

Biggest learning curve as a plant lady is recognizing when bigger is not always better with pots!

Almost killed my poor Dracaena sticking her in a 12 inch pot when she only needed 6” after looking at the root ball😭 I was wondering why her soil wasn’t drying out at all after a month…oops 😬⚰️

What have you all learned over time?! All advice welcome with any plants!⬇️⬇️

This has actually been a big one for me too! I always want to go bigger than they need. The other thing that’s significantly improved things for me is keeping plants in nursery pots and bottom watering. Or simply bottom watering pots.

Yes!🙌🏻 I just started using nursery pots too - it’s such a game changer!!

When repotting it’s best to only go up in pot size 2 inches at a time - so like go from a 6 inch to an 8 inch!

Yes! Same I used to think the plant would thrive with a WAY bigger pot!

I don’t know kinda outa nowhere but if you feel a jade plants leaves, if it’s firm and doesn’t bend easily then don’t water it.
I always overwater my plants 🙄🫠🥴

Exactly 😭 That’s a great tip for leaves that store more water!🙌🏻

Same and I wish I would’ve learned this in the beginning cause I killed quite a few this way when I first started out.

You’re not alone 😭

I learned that one - a few times, so maybe I haven’t actually learned.

I’ve learned that rounded sides mean that the soil stays wet much longer.

This is a great tip I never thought of! Thank you!🙌🏻

CHUD likes to gather around the lip. Also, with cactus, the plants tend to reach right/left, not down. Roots get lost.

Yup! I learned the same lesson as you. Another one is that not all plants need the same type of soil. And that overwatering leads to root rot. 🫣😖
