# Sooo this is my first time actually getting into plants and I fear…

_Gepostet von Gianna am 2025-10-05_

Sooo this is my first time actually getting into plants and I fear that I did not know we should not be planting directly in the pots…. Should I replant all of the ones I’ve collected in clear plastic nursery pots or will I give them transplant shock? I don’t know what’s better because even though the pots have drainage they stay really moist for awhile… any advice would be great thanks!! I wanna do them right!!

I always plant directly into the pot. I rarely place a nursery pot into a decorative pot.

You can absolutely plant directly into pots. All of mine are. There can be pros to keeping in nursery pot though. Too much transplanting can have a negative effect, but as long as you keep them in good light they should survive it. If your pots aren’t draining well and staying wet you can always aerate with chopsticks and just make sure to not water often. Buy more porous pots in the future

Why do you think you can’t plant in a pot?? I will agree that some pots are better than others especially depending on the plant.

One of my friends who has loved lots of plants told me I’d be have better luck since most of mine are glazed ceramic!

Well that just may be true for certain plants and your pots. But you certainly can plant directly in pots!

Most of mine are ceramic or fancy terracotta.

I have a single plant in a black nursery pot; the rest are planted directly into their pots. I only use pots with drainage holes or that are self watering.

If you feel like your plants are staying wet too long, make sure your soil mixes are suitable for the types of plants you're keeping.
