# Hello there, I’m looking for suggestions about watering without…

_Pubblicato da Gaia il 2025-07-27_

Hello there, I’m looking for suggestions about watering without having to take each plant down and over to the sink. I know about self watering pots but does anyone have any other suggestions? I have over 200 houseplants and they’re all thriving, But I’m looking for a more time efficient way of doing things.
I love doing my plant chores daily, but it takes a lot of time.
What is everyone else doing? TIA! 😊

There are indoor drip irrigation watering systems that draws water from a container. The controller is battery or solar powered and has an adjustable timer. The drip nozzles have adjustable drip flow. Nozzles are varied and interchangeable. The outdoor models connect to a faucet. I’ve used them before on my patio plants. The only issue was the overflow of water that is not an issue with outdoor plants. It can be an issue with indoor plants.

It may still take awhile but get a wide bucket of water and set a few plants in there at a time and bottom water and then put them back, I also have many, many houseplants and this seems to save me a little bit of time

Bottom watering is a good idea. You still have to take down the plants. But, you won’t have to fill your sink and hand water. I use a 14gal Rubbermaid storage container to bottom water and fertilize my sensitive plants with rain water. My bigger pots fit in it. I let the big ones soak overnight. Also, I use the container for mixing homemade potting mixes and to soak coco coir bricks. I use a second container to store potting soil bags especially the perlite and worm castings bags. They spill everywhere. 😁

Put these under every planter. Then every week, pour an inch of water into every tray. You’ll prevent gnats and you’ll get a more thorough watering. Keep the saucers about 1 inch wider than every pot.

This may work for 9s but this system probably will not work for most people with a lot of plants. Many plants won’t survive weekly waterings. I have a few tropicals that get watered every 3 or 4 days. If I’m late, which happened last week, they are badly drooping.

Then add water every 3-4 days? I have orchids in these that I refill every 3 days and ferns that I refill every day.

Weekly is a general timeframe for houseplants. I have succulents in these as well that I refill once every 3 weeks. The schedule is gonna be different for everyone

Gaia I have 160 plants and I totally agree, it can be a lot of work, and time that most people don’t have. Time I have so I’m usually not in a rush but I still have a system. First I go thru the schedule and snooze the plants that don’t need watered. I have my jug of plain water and jug of fertilizer water at hand, along with a bucket for the excess saucer water pour off. I go thru watering each, as saucers fill I dump them into the bucket. Water a second time to be thorough and dump the excess water. Then put them back. I can get thru pretty quickly if needed but I usually spend time examining for bugs and dead leaves. You could do them while in place or place them on a table, which is what I do.

Phil I agree with you. So many plants have different needs. Luckily I have them all on the app and if they don’t need it, I snooze 😊
I don’t mind the time it takes, I actually enjoy spending time doing it but sometimes work gets in the way 😂 thanks for the tips!

I got this off of Amazon and I love it for watering, it also gently aerates the soil and adds oxygen. I have had a great success with this.
