# I’ve had Jemima for a few months now, and she gets a pretty good…

I’ve had Jemima for a few months now, and she gets a pretty good amount of light - I use artificial and she’s always under one of the 16hr ones. I have one other place that might give her more light, but should I consider beheading or just prune the bottom droopy leaves? Her little baby hasn’t done much growing much lately as well

It’s a paddle plant :) not very uncommon, hopefully you can find one nearby

Paddle plants require a lot of bright light. They should look more like my pic. But honestly, I like the look of yours. Most people would not suspect it is etoliated. I wouldn’t behead your plant to propagate. It just looks too good. Buy yourself another and keep it under brighter lights. They color up nicely but mine have lost color. Not sure why. It may be the season.

My paddle plant does not stand upright as your does it’s laying more flat. Any idea why? It’s under a grow light 12 hours a day which maybe isn’t bright enough?

12hrs under a grow light is more appropriate for plants that like indirect light. Succulents, cacti, and similar need closer to 16hrs. Mine is just farther from the light so I’ll move it to where the rest of my succulents are

Such a cool plant!

It’s not just how long, it’s the type of grow light. The tube like lights that are so popular, are pretty much useless. The majority of lights sold on Amazon are not bright enough. They advertise the colors they can change and the timer and the dimability. The colors are of no value and neither is dimming if it’s not bright enough anyway. Just advertising hype.
