My friend gifted me this plant and I’m flummoxed. Snake plant, dracena, bromeliad? I keep getting different answers.

I could be totally wrong but my best guess would be a flaming sword

Nice to have friends that give you plants!! 🌿

At first glance I would think it might be some kind of bromeliad. It reminds me a bit of my pineapple plant but your leaves appear wider. Could you take another couple of photos? One more from the side and the second from directly above so we can see the growth pattern of new leaves. Those might give us a better shot of helping to identify it.

Okay, so now I am really stumped. 🤔 Based on the pinched point leaf tips and the wider tapered leaves I would say some kind of snake plant but it lacks the variegated leaves that a snake plant derives its name from and I’ve never seen a snake grow “out” instead of “up” unless it was falling over.

My best guess is bromeliad based on the fact that new growth is so much lighter green than the mature growth. Bromeliads typically have showy new growth but can lose the red, orange or yellow colors if they don’t get adequate light. They also tend to grow “up” but then relax and lay down as new leaves come in.

I don’t think it is a false bromeliad, (aka basket plant) based on its growth pattern but I could be wrong about even that.

Thank you! I was leaning bromeliad as well. I’m hoping time will tell. 😊

Bird’s nest snake plants lack the variegation.

So strange. It looks more like a false bromeliad

Oh - did not know that was a thing. But maybe?!

She told me that it was labeled as a sansevieria jade star but I have serious doubts.

A matureish one

Sansevieria bird’s nest snake plant is solid green and not variegated like your plant. So your friend gave you the right bird’s nest snake plant variety label.
