# Hi! New here, first post. I'm so glad I found this app and community!…

Hi! New here, first post. I'm so glad I found this app and community! I've been motivated to correctly identify all of my plants, most of them gifts so I'm not exactly sure what they are. This one in particular I've thought was a succulent. I just took it out of the cute dinosaur pot it's lived in for 3 years (please don't judge me) and after looking at the roots, I still have no idea, Google has no idea, this app has no idea. So, does anyone know what this little guy is? Leaves are thick like a succulent. Yes, my cats have snacked in the past.. Thank you!!

Some type of dracaena or maybe an aloe?

It's kinda got aloe type vibes!

This looks like a black gem alworthia, which is listed as black gem aloe in Planta

This may be, but would it have the darker coloring?

Potentially but new growth can take a while to develop color, and coloration can really change with light intensity/temp etc.

Oh! That's good to know. Hopefully with renewed soil and moss, more light, it'll pick up growth so we can find out!

I would recommend something specifically geared towards aloe, with well draining soil. They do not like to have soil that stays moist for long
